Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates it. That company processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be retained as needed to prepare a response. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the servers automatically receive routine technical information about the visit:
- Page-view timestamps
- Device type and operating system
- The referring site, when one is supplied
- Browser name and version
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files used to understand traffic patterns, including popular pages and common exit points. Analytics services combine that usage data. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how some site functions behave.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Greene County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to the Greene County Sheriff's Office, Circuit Clerk, Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification, and Illinois State Police Sex Offender Registry. It is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal dossiers.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their own privacy policies govern submitted information, and they decide how long data is retained or whether it is shared. Review the applicable provider terms before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Throughout the site we link to sheriff's office pages, court portals, state agency sites, legal aid groups, and third-party search tools. Clicking any of those links takes you off our site. At that point, their privacy policy governs your visit. Read it before sharing any personal details.
Certain advertising partners may track your activity across sites to show targeted ads. That tracking runs on their systems, not ours.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable standard safeguards protect collected data. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed completely secure, so these measures cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Information identified as belonging to a minor will be deleted.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary by residence and applicable law. In Illinois, relevant protections include the Personal Information Protection Act, 815 ILCS 530, and the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, 815 ILCS 505. Subject to those laws, you may:
